US Delegation visit to Lund - Inspiring discussions when food people from San Francisco visit food people from Lund

Northern Lights on Food together with Business Sweden hosted a delegation from San Francisco last Sunday. 20 people with an interest in food, including entrepreneurs, investors, those in food tech, and chefs spent a day in Lund to learn more about the latest food research at Lund University, and within Northern Lights on Food, as well as to start new collaborations.

The morning was spent at MAX IV and the Food Technology experimental hall, followed by a tremendous lunch at Hypoteket. Among the visitors were entrepreneur Darko Mandich – creating honey without bees under the brand MeliBio, award winning chef Tanya Holland from Brown Sugar Kitchen, and Gabe Youtsay, Chief Innovation Officer at UC Davis. The American group was introduced to the possibilities of food innovation connected to MAX IV and ESS, research projects on marine resources, and the Lund-based food startup Good Idea. The lunch finished with a reflection on how gastronomy could benefit from novel technologies, given by Prof. Håkan Jönsson and pastry-chef Jan Hedh.

The day resulted in both inspiring discussions on future collaborative projects and promises to continue the conversation, increasing the interfaces between food entrepreneurs and deep food tech. The next meeting will be at the Nordic-US Food Summit in San Francisco in November – we are all looking forward to meeting again!
